Sharon Horton


Group Technical Director

With over 25 years of experience in the global retail and manufacturing industry, Sharon is a seasoned leader in product technology, regulatory affairs, responsible and ethical sourcing, health and safety, and food safety. She has successfully led teams across all DFI markets, encompassing four diverse formats: Food, Convenience, Health and Beauty, and Home Furnishings for the past 12+ years.


In her current role at DFI Retail Group, Sharon is a passionate leader in advancing the sustainability agenda. She oversees all aspects of responsible and ethical sourcing for both own-brand and non-trade product portfolios. Sharon leads the development and implementation of technical and regulatory policies to ensure the compliance of all DFI Own Brand supplier and product sustainability programs. In recent years, she has championed innovative technical movements in developing unique assured methods and verification models for Scope 3 emissions and spearheading initiatives to reduce plastic usage in own-brand product ranges.


Originally from the UK, Sharon has a rich background in product development and other leadership technical roles within ‘Fresh and Ready to Eat’ manufacturing, supplying leading retailers such as Tesco, Morrisons, Sainsbury's, and Aldi. Before joining DFI Retail Group, she worked as Group QA Director at Sobeys Inc., a prominent retailer based in Canada, for 7 years.


Sharon’s extensive experience and practical approach to sustainability have helped her drive improvements in responsible sourcing and compliance across the retail sector.
